FAQ

Who is this for?

Anyone who wants to learn the map of Japan: travelers, Japanese learners and students. Japanese kids learn the prefectures around grades 3–4. There are 6 regional levels such as Kanto, each with around 7 prefectures, so starting with one region is easy.

What kinds of questions are there?

Two kinds, alternating. In one you pick the name of the prefecture lit up on the map from 4 choices; in the other you're given a name (“Where is Osaka?”) and tap it on the map. 20 questions in all.

Is the map accurate?

It's a simplified map made to show where each prefecture is and its rough shape, not exact borders (there are small gaps between prefectures). Only Okinawa is moved into the dotted box at the lower left, at a larger scale than the rest, so it fits on the map.

What if I'm stuck?

Press the capital city hint to see the capital of the prefecture in question. You can still submit to the leaderboard if you used hints and got everything right. The number of hints used is shown in the result.

How is the leaderboard ranked?

Only runs with all 20 questions correct can be submitted, ranked by the fastest time. Each region has its own leaderboard. The set changes at midnight Japan time and is the same 20 questions for everyone on the same day and region. Random practice gives different questions each time and isn't recorded.
