FAQ

How do you play tangram?

A square cut into seven pieces — two large triangles, one medium triangle, two small triangles, a square and a parallelogram — is used to build the shape shown. Use all seven, don't overlap them, keep them inside the shape and leave no gaps. Pieces turn in 45° steps, and the parallelogram can be flipped over.

Is there only one answer?

No. Each silhouette comes from an arrangement we designed, but the check only asks whether all seven pieces lie inside the shadow without overlapping each other. The pieces add up to exactly the area of the shadow, so that also means there are no gaps. Any arrangement that fills the shape counts (the server checks it the same way).

How do I move the pieces?

Drag a piece to move it (when you let go it snaps to a nearby corner). Tap a piece to turn it 45° clockwise. The Rotate right and Rotate left buttons turn the selected piece, and the Flip button flips the parallelogram. With a keyboard, Tab to a piece, first turn it to the right angle with R (clockwise) or Shift+R (counterclockwise), then move it onto the shadow with the arrow keys. Each arrow press stops where a corner lines up, so the piece drops into place. F flips the parallelogram.

What's the difference between Easy and Normal?

Easy draws the lines between the pieces inside the shadow, which tells you where each piece goes (pieces also snap to the corners of those lines). Normal shows only the shadow. The 32 shapes are split into two sets of 16, one for each level, and each set rotates daily, so a Normal shape never appears with lines in Easy (or in practice). You can play both on the same day.

How is the leaderboard ranked?

By time, fastest first (you always use all seven pieces, so moves aren't compared). The clock starts when you first touch a piece. You only need a nickname, and you can submit up to 30 times a day per level. The server re-places your seven pieces to verify every run.
