FAQ
Who is this for?
People learning Japanese who have started reading hiragana, and anyone who wants to get faster at reading it. The Basic level only uses plain kana (and n), so you can play with a kana chart open next to you.
Should I type Hepburn or Kunrei romaji?
Either is correct. You can type shi or si, tsu or tu, sha or sya. Mixing them within one word is fine too. When you make a mistake, both spellings are shown.
How do I type n, the small tsu and long vowels?
Type n for the n kana. When it comes right before a vowel or ya / yu / yo (as in kin'youbi, Friday), type nn so it isn't read as nyo. For the small tsu, double the next consonant (kitte, stamp). Type long vowels exactly as written in kana (okaasan, gyuunyuu).
Can I play on my phone?
Yes. An alphabet keyboard appears on screen, so you can tap to type. On a computer, just use your normal keyboard.
How is the leaderboard ranked?
Only runs with all 20 words correct can be submitted, ranked by the fastest time. Each level has its own leaderboard, and hints are allowed. The set changes at midnight Japan time and is the same 20 words for everyone on the same day and level. Random practice uses different words each time and isn't recorded.
