FAQ
How do you play Nim?
On your turn, pick one heap and take one or more stones from it. Whoever takes the last stone wins. You move first.
Is there a winning strategy?
Yes. Write each heap size in binary and add up each column of digits. If you keep handing your opponent a position where every column is even (the XOR, or nim-sum, is 0), you always win. The starting position always has an odd column, so you, moving first, have a winning move.
What if I can't beat the computer?
The computer always plays the winning move, so one mistake means you can no longer win. Press "Restart" to start over. Get comfortable with 3 heaps before trying 4.
How is the leaderboard ranked?
Only wins are recorded. Shortest time first; ties go to fewer moves. You only need a nickname, and you can submit up to 30 times a day.
