FAQ
Who is this for?
Beginners of any age who are learning to write Japanese, and children from about 5. You don't need to hold a pen: tracing with your finger or mouse is enough to learn the stroke order.
How many characters are there? Does it include voiced sounds like ga and pa?
It covers the 46 basic hiragana (a to n). Voiced sounds (ga, pa) and the small characters (small ya, yu, yo) are not included. The goal is to learn the stroke order of the 46 basics first.
How accurately do I have to trace?
You can stray from the model line by about 12% of the character's size. It only checks that you start at the beginning of the glowing stroke and move through it in order to the end. It doesn't judge how neat your line is.
What happens if I make a mistake?
There are no X marks. If a stroke doesn't count, your line just disappears and you're asked to try again. Start again from the green dot. You can retry as many times as you like.
Are there scores or a leaderboard?
No. It's made for practice at your own pace, so there are no times or rankings. You just see “Done!” when you finish a character. Nothing is sent to the server.
