Beginners learning Japanese who want to check basic words. Each word is shown in Japanese with its romaji reading and, where possible, a picture, so you can play even if you can't read kana yet.

170 basic words that Japanese elementary schools cover in English class, in 12 categories: colors, numbers, days of the week, months, animals, food, the body, family, school, sports, nature and daily life. Choose a level by the length of the English word: 3–4 letters, 5–6 letters or all.

Yes. An alphabet keyboard appears on screen, so you can tap to type. On a computer, just use your normal keyboard.

Press Hint to fill in the first letter (the number of letters is shown from the start). If you get it wrong, the Japanese word and the correct English are shown together, which helps you remember it next time. Hints are counted, but you can still submit to the leaderboard.

Only runs with all 20 words correct can be submitted, ranked by the fastest time. Each level has its own leaderboard. The set changes at midnight Japan time and is the same 20 words for everyone on the same day and level. Random practice uses different words each time and isn't recorded.
